Professor Swee Hin Teoh is an eminent materials and bioengineering scientist recognized for his pioneering contributions to biomaterials and tissue engineering. He earned his BEng (First Class Honours) and Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from Monash University, Australia. With an illustrious academic career spanning over four decades, he has served at Monash University, the National University of Singapore (NUS), and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), holding leadership roles such as Director of the Centre for Biomedical Materials Applications and Technology, Chair of the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, and President’s Chair Professor at NTU. His research focuses on biomaterials, biodegradable scaffolds, and bone tissue engineering, leading to FDA-approved innovations successfully commercialized through Osteopore International. His scholarly excellence is reflected through numerous awards, including the Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award, Gold Asian Innovation Award, and the Distinguished Changjiang Chair Professorship. 🎓Academic Background 

Xulong Zhu earned his Bachelor of Medicine from Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine in July 2012. He then pursued a Master of Medicine at Yan’an University Medical College, completing it in 2014. Currently, he is furthering his expertise by pursuing a Doctor of Medicine degree at Xi’an Jiaotong University. His strong academic foundation has been instrumental in shaping his career in oncological surgery and cancer research.

💼Professional Experience 

Since July 2015, Xulong Zhu has been working at the Department of Oncological Surgery, Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital, where he specializes in radical and reconstructive surgeries for breast and thyroid tumors. His expertise also extends to chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, endocrine therapy, and comprehensive management for advanced breast cancer patients. Due to his dedication and contributions to the field, he has received several key promotions throughout his career. In 2018, he was appointed as an Attending Physician. His continued excellence in surgical oncology led to his promotion as a Deputy Chief Physician in Surgery in 2023. In 2024, he was further recognized for his leadership and expertise, being appointed as the Deputy Director of the Department of Oncological Surgery.

Additionally, he plays a vital role as the Deputy Director of the Breast and Thyroid Diseases Clinical Medical Research Center of Shaanxi Province and the Immunotherapy Committee of the Breast Cancer Prevention and Treatment Society of Beijing. 🔬Research Focus & Contributions 

Xulong Zhu’s research is centered on breast and thyroid neoplasms, biological materials, tissue engineering, and anti-tumor research integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine. His expertise in these areas has led him to spearhead eight major research projects, including the Natural Science Foundation of Shaanxi Province, the CSCO Cancer Research Fund, the Xi’an Science and Technology Plan Project, the Back-up Disciplinary Leader Project of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital, and the Elite Talent Project. In addition to leading independent research, he is a core member of the National Key Research and Development Program, playing a crucial role in the Sino-Japanese Governmental International Cooperation Project. His research has significantly contributed to advancements in oncological surgery and cancer treatment.
