🎓 Academic and Professional Titles

Prof. Dr. Xiaolang Chen is recognized as one of the Reserve Candidates for Academic and Technical Leaders of Sichuan, showcasing his immense potential and leadership in science and technology. He has been honored as a Specially Appointed Expert of Sichuan Province and Chengdu City, and further distinguished as one of the Overseas High-level Talents Abroad in Sichuan Province. Moreover, he contributes significantly as a Specially Appointed Expert of the Sichuan Provincial Expert Service Team, further cementing his role as a key academic and technical leader in the region.

🧪 Academic Research Experience

Since June 2010, Prof. Chen has served as an Associate Professor and then Professor at the Key Laboratory of Advanced Materials Technology, Ministry of Education, housed within the School of Materials Science and Engineering, at Southwest Jiaotong University, P. R. China. Concurrently, since July 2010, he has held the position of Guest Professor at the National Engineering Research Center for Compounding and Modification of Polymer Materials. His international academic exposure includes a prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship (Jan. 2010 – Jan. 2011) at the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA, where he deepened his research in polymer engineering. Earlier, from September 2008 to April 2009, he served as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Machine Intelligence and Systems Engineering, Akita Prefectural University, Japan. His academic journey began with a Ph.D. (Sept. 2004 – Jun. 2007) at the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering, Polymer Research Institute of Sichuan University.

💼 Direct Research Project Support

Prof. Chen has led and participated in numerous national and international research projects, reflecting the depth and scope of his scientific contributions. He has secured funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (projects: 52473086; 22365009; 51763002; 51003088) and the National Science and Technology Supporting Project Foundation of China (2007BAB08B05). His global collaborations are evident in the International Science and Technology Cooperation Projects of Sichuan Province (2023YFH0063; 2019YFH0047) and Chengdu City (2015-GH02-00034-HZ; 2017-GH02-00051-HZ; 2019-GH02-00026-HZ). 🎓Academic Background 

Xulong Zhu earned his Bachelor of Medicine from Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine in July 2012. He then pursued a Master of Medicine at Yan’an University Medical College, completing it in 2014. Currently, he is furthering his expertise by pursuing a Doctor of Medicine degree at Xi’an Jiaotong University. His strong academic foundation has been instrumental in shaping his career in oncological surgery and cancer research.

💼Professional Experience 

Since July 2015, Xulong Zhu has been working at the Department of Oncological Surgery, Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital, where he specializes in radical and reconstructive surgeries for breast and thyroid tumors. His expertise also extends to chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, endocrine therapy, and comprehensive management for advanced breast cancer patients. Due to his dedication and contributions to the field, he has received several key promotions throughout his career. In 2018, he was appointed as an Attending Physician. His continued excellence in surgical oncology led to his promotion as a Deputy Chief Physician in Surgery in 2023. In 2024, he was further recognized for his leadership and expertise, being appointed as the Deputy Director of the Department of Oncological Surgery.

Xulong Zhu holds various prestigious positions in medical associations and committees, actively contributing to the advancement of oncological surgery. He serves as the Deputy Director of multiple committees, including the Thyroid Disease Committee of the Shaanxi Medical Communication Society, the Breast Section of the Day Medical Care Society of Shaanxi Province, and the Thyroid and Parathyroid Diseases Committee of the Xi’an Research Hospital Society. Additionally, he plays a vital role as the Deputy Director of the Breast and Thyroid Diseases Clinical Medical Research Center of Shaanxi Province and the Immunotherapy Committee of the Breast Cancer Prevention and Treatment Society of Beijing. His leadership extends to media and public health awareness, where he serves as the Secretary-General of the Tumor Prevention and Treatment Committee of Shaanxi Broadcasting Television Station’s “Everyone Talks About Health” program and the Xi’an Thyroid and Breast Tumor Specialist Alliance. Xulong Zhu’s research is centered on breast and thyroid neoplasms, biological materials, tissue engineering, and anti-tumor research integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine. His expertise in these areas has led him to spearhead eight major research projects, including the Natural Science Foundation of Shaanxi Province, the CSCO Cancer Research Fund, the Xi’an Science and Technology Plan Project, the Back-up Disciplinary Leader Project of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital, and the Elite Talent Project. In addition to leading independent research, he is a core member of the National Key Research and Development Program, playing a crucial role in the Sino-Japanese Governmental International Cooperation Project.
