🎓Educational Background

Mahmoud Mohamed Alfishawy is currently a PhD candidate in the Biophysics Department at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt, since March 2021. He completed his Master of Biophysics at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, in September 2019, and holds a Diploma of Radiation Physics from the same university, awarded in September 2007. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biophysics from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt, in May 2005.

💼Employment History 

Mahmoud has extensive experience in medical physics, particularly in radiation oncology. He currently serves as a Senior Medical Physicist at the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Center, a JCI-accredited hospital, where he has been employed since April 2021. Prior to this role, he worked at the International Medical Center (also JCI-accredited) from April 2008 to April 2021 as a Senior Medical Physicist. Mahmoud has also worked in various other prestigious hospitals, including Wadi El-Neel Hospital and As-Salam International Hospital, holding senior roles from January 2010 to April 2021. He began his career at Al-Hussein Hospital as a Medical Physicist from January 2006 to March 2008.

Mahmoud’s clinical expertise spans a wide range of radiation therapy machines, including CyberKnife, TrueBeam, Versa HD, Clinac, Cobalt 60, and others. He is experienced with advanced dosimetry systems, such as PTW and Sunnuclear, and patient-specific QA systems like Octavius 4D, Sunnuclear SRS Mapcheck, and Portal Dosimetry. His proficiency in radiation therapy techniques includes 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SRS, and SBRT, and he is adept at using treatment planning systems like Accuray Precision and Eclipse.

🏆Awards 

Mahmoud has received numerous accolades for his contributions to radiation therapy and dosimetry. Notably, he was a co-author of the MESTRO 2023 First Award for his abstract on In-Vivo Dosimetry using Diodes and Mosfets in Radiation Therapy. He also won the Proknow PSCO Plan Study 2024 First Award for a Head and Neck Case. Furthermore, he received two awards in the Arabian Radiotherapy Plan Competition 2019: First Award for 3DCRT and HYBRID (Craniospinal case) and Second Award for VMAT (Craniospinal case).
