Mr. Anastasios Ziakas is a dedicated research associate specializing in maritime studies, transport economics, and sustainable shipping solutions. He currently contributes to the University of Piraeus Research Center, following a prior role at the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, Hellenic Institute of Transport, focusing on transport economics, environmental impacts, and maritime and air transport systems. Anastasios holds a Master’s degree in Shipping from the University of Piraeus, where his thesis explored dry port location selection and impact assessment, achieving top marks. He is also pursuing a PhD in Maritime Studies at the University of Piraeus, investigating coastal shipping trends and their effects on ship-port interfaces. His academic foundation includes a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Athens University of Economics and Business and an Erasmus+ exchange in Economics studies at Poznan University of Economics and Business. Proficient in Python, GIS, data analysis, visualization, and research proposal development, he combines technical expertise with strategic insight. His research interests encompass shipping decarbonization, port operations, logistics, cruise sector optimization, yachting, and the intersection of economics and operations research. Recognized for his analytical rigor and contributions to sustainable maritime transport, he continues to advance knowledge in shipping efficiency and environmental sustainability, bridging academic research with practical maritime applications.
