🎓 Academic Background

Mr. Hussain holds a Ph.D. in Physics/Engineering from the University of Exeter, U.K. (2016–2021), where he was supported by a prestigious EPSRC studentship through the Centre for Doctoral Training in Metamaterials (XM2). Prior to this, he earned his Masters and M.Phil. in Physics from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad (2006–2011), and a Bachelor of Science in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry from G.C. University, Faisalabad (2004–2006).

🎓 Teaching and Mentorship Experience

Mr. Hussain is actively engaged in academia and mentoring. Since 2025, he has been delivering lectures on Instrumental Methods in Inorganic Chemistry (IMIC) and Methods of Catalysis at TUM. He previously facilitated inorganic chemistry lab courses (2021–2023) and has been supervising undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students since 2017. Earlier in his career, he served as a Lecturer of Physics in the Higher Education Department of Punjab, Pakistan (2012–2016), and as an Adjunct Faculty Member at International Islamic University, Islamabad.

Since August 2023, Mr. Hussain has served as a Group Leader (Senior Scientist) at the Chair of Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry, Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany. Before assuming this leadership role, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at TUM (2021–2023), having previously conducted doctoral research at the University of Exeter and served as a Guest Researcher at TUM’s Catalysis Research Center (2018–2019). His earlier research engagements include time at the National Center for Physics in Islamabad and a prestigious CRDF-Global Fellowship at George Washington University, USA.

Mr. Mian Zahid Hussain is a distinguished materials scientist specializing in the development and functionalization of inorganic-organic porous materials, particularly metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and their derivatives. His research focuses on heterogeneous catalysis, energy conversion and storage, and sensing technologies. He has made significant contributions in the fields of photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, and solar fuel generation, driving innovation in sustainable energy solutions and environmental remediation. His interdisciplinary work skillfully merges synthetic chemistry, materials engineering, and surface science to design multifunctional nanomaterials for energy, biomedical, and environmental applications.

Mr. Hussain has received numerous prestigious fellowships and travel grants, including the EuroTech Visiting Researcher Programme (2025), Italian Chemical Society Grant (2019), and CRDF-Global Fellowship (2015).
