🎓Educational Background

Dr. Yujuan Zhang completed her Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP) in 2013, under the supervision of Prof. Zhang Ping. She then went on to gain postdoctoral experience at the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHEP, CAS), where she worked under the mentorship of Academician Chai Zhifang. Her expertise in theoretical physics laid the foundation for her career in computational materials science.

 💼Professional Experience

Dr. Zhang currently serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) in the School of Materials Science and Engineering, a position she has held since June 2019. Prior to this, she worked as a Lecturer at USTB from October 2015 to June 2019. Additionally, she expanded her academic experience as a Visiting Scholar at the University at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) in the Department of Physics from February 2017 to February 2018. Her work at IHEP as a Postdoctoral Researcher and at CAEP in the early stages of her career helped shape her approach to the development of new materials for a wide range of applications.

🔬Research Interests

Dr. Zhang’s research is deeply rooted in computational materials science. She utilizes cutting-edge techniques such as first-principles calculations, molecular dynamics, phase-field methods, and machine learning to investigate and predict the structures and properties of materials. Her current research focus includes:

  • Separation of actinide radionuclides using novel inorganic nanomaterials, which aims to address critical challenges in nuclear waste management.
  • Physicochemical properties of advanced nuclear fuels, seeking to enhance the safety and efficiency of nuclear energy systems.
  • Design and simulation of tungsten-based first wall materials for nuclear fusion, aiming to improve the materials used in the development of fusion reactors.

Dr. Zhang’s work has significantly contributed to understanding and advancing the material science behind nuclear technologies and energy systems, with a strong emphasis on innovative, sustainable solutions.
