Dr. Shetty’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Yenepoya Dental College, affiliated with Mangalore University, in 1997. She further specialized by earning her Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Periodontology from the prestigious A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in 2005, where she was awarded the Gold Medal by Rajiv Gandhi University for achieving the highest marks. Her dedication to continuous learning is reflected in her completion of a Certificate in Implantology from Nobel Biocare (2016–2017) and a Certificate in Bioethics and Basic Life Support from KMC College, Manipal University in 2017.

Professional Experience

Prof. Dr. Neetha Shetty, a seasoned dental academician, currently serves as the Professor and Head, Department of Periodontology at the Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), Mangalore, under Manipal University. With over 20 years of academic experience, she has consistently contributed to the advancement of Periodontology and oral healthcare. She is actively involved in mentoring postgraduate students, guiding them through advanced research initiatives. Her clinical strengths lie in advanced periodontal surgical techniques, implantology, and regenerative periodontal therapies, which she integrates into both her teaching and clinical practice.

Awards & Honors

Throughout her career, Dr. Shetty has been recognized for her academic and professional excellence. She received a Gold Medal for her outstanding performance during her MDS studies. She has been an invited Chairperson at prestigious conferences such as the 39th National Conference of ISP in Jaipur (2014) and the ISPRP National Conference in Mangalore (2018). Her speaking engagements include being a Guest Speaker at events like “Modern Approaches to Oral Hygiene” during Oral Hygiene Day (2017) and a Keynote Speaker at the international virtual conference organized by MAHSA University, Malaysia, on October 26, 2024, where she presented on “Beyond the Surface: Periodontal Aesthetics.”

Research & Innovation

Dr. Shetty has made significant contributions to research and innovation in Periodontology. She was honored with an ICMR Grant Award in 2024 for her groundbreaking work on advanced periodontal aesthetic procedures. In the same year, she was granted a patent for the development of “Flexi Instruments”, an innovative set of tools designed to improve efficiency and precision in periodontal procedures. She also serves as a reviewer for esteemed journals including the Journal of Interdisciplinary Dentistry and the Journal of Nanotechnology, reflecting her influence in shaping scientific discourse in dental research.
