🎓 Education Background
Zhao Yi pursued her Ph.D. in Materials Physics and Chemistry at Beihang University (BUAA) from 2014 to 2020, under the supervision of Professor Liu Jinzhang. Prior to that, she completed her Bachelor of Engineering in Metal Materials at Yanshan University (2010-2014), where she was guided by Academician Tian Yongjun and Professor Jing Qin. Her academic journey has been marked by excellence, laying a strong foundation for her research in advanced materials.
🏛️ Professional Experience
After obtaining her doctorate, Zhao Yi worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow (2020-2022) at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Beijing Institute of Technology, where she was mentored by Academician Wu Feng and Professor Chen Renjie. Since November 2022, she has been serving as an Associate Professor at the School of Chemistry, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, continuing her research in energy storage and materials chemistry.
🔬 Research Projects
Zhao Yi has led several prestigious research projects as a Principal Investigator. She is currently leading a National Natural Science Foundation of China for Distinguished Young Scholars (2023-2025, Grant No. 60171009), along with projects funded by the Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation and the Talent Introduction Project of Beijing University of Chemical Technology. She has also successfully completed significant research projects, including the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation General Program (2020-2022) and the Open Project of Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Power Battery Safety (2021-2022). Additionally, she is an active participant in the National Natural Science Foundation of China – National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2022-2025).
🏆 Awards and Honors
Zhao Yi’s academic excellence and contributions have been widely recognized through numerous awards and honors. She received the National Scholarship for Doctoral Students (2018) and was named an Outstanding Postgraduate of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (2018). In 2019, she was awarded the Doctoral Student Excellence Academic Funding at Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and was later honored as an Outstanding Graduate from the same university in 2020. In 2022, she won the Second Prize at the National Postdoctoral Academic Achievement Forum for her outstanding contributions in the field of Frontier Intersecting Science and Future Stereoscopic Transportation.

Zhao Yi’s research primarily focuses on energy storage materials and devices, including the development of aqueous zinc batteries, supercapacitors, and other advanced energy storage systems. Her work aims to enhance the efficiency, stability, and performance of these technologies to support sustainable energy solutions. Another key area of her research is the design of carbon-based organic materials, where she explores organic-inorganic composite electrodes to improve energy applications. By integrating novel materials, she seeks to optimize electrode performance, conductivity, and durability, contributing to the advancement of next-generation energy storage devices. Additionally, Zhao Yi is actively involved in fuel cells and catalysts research, focusing on the development of fuel cells and catalytic materials for energy conversion technologies. Her work in this field is crucial for improving the efficiency, longevity, and scalability of fuel cells, which play a significant role in clean energy applications. Through her research, she aims to drive innovative advancements in sustainable energy storage and conversion technologies.
