Dr. Daryoush Sanaei holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. His doctoral thesis was titled “An investigation on removal of Hydrogen Sulfur using electrochemical technology: Utilization of power generation from MFCs as driving force towards electrochemical reactions.” He also earned an M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Hamedan University of Medical Sciences, Iran.

Research Experience

Dr. Sanaei has extensive experience as a Researcher in Environmental Engineering, where he led and contributed to several innovative projects. As a Senior Research Fellow, he worked on developing Manganese-iron doped Chitosan-engineered coconut coil fiber biochar as an efficient catalyst for enhanced oxygen reduction in air-cathode microbial fuel cells. He also focused on improving power generation through the synthesis of hematite nanowire-arrays and the study of electron transfer via redox-active coconut biochar particles.

He served as a Project Assistant Level-II at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences Institute for Environmental Research, where he investigated mixed metal oxides/PVA/cellulose waste paper beads as adsorbents for the removal of ciprofloxacin and Yellow 17 dye from aqueous solutions. Additionally, as a Project Fellow, he contributed to environmental management in the Iranian Aluminum Company, Tehran. Since, he has been engaged in a project at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences focusing on nitrate and sulfate removal from aqueous solutions using Magnetite MAF-X27-Cl-OH, with particular emphasis on the effects of chloride and phosphate ions as interfering materials.

Dr. Sanaei has demonstrated outstanding teaching excellence across various levels. For Bachelor’s students of Environmental Health, he has taught subjects such as Environmental Chemistry, Water Quality Management, Hydrology, Environmental Microbiology, Radiation Safety, Vector Control, Solid Waste Collection and Disposal, Food Hygiene Control, Hazardous Wastes, Chemistry Laboratory, Water Treatment, Water Distribution Systems, Wastewater Treatment, Energy and Environment, and Microbiology. For Public Health students, he has delivered courses in Water Sanitation, Wastewater Treatment, Solid Waste Collection and Disposal, Air Sanitation, Food Hygiene, Building Sanitation, and Radiation Safety and Health. Furthermore, he has enriched Ph.D. students in Environmental Health Engineering with advanced courses including Environmental Microbiology and Soil Pollution Control.

🎓 Educational Background

Dr. Prabir Pal earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar, under the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) in 2008. His doctoral research, titled “Electron Spectroscopic Studies of Some Colossal Magnetoresistive Manganites,” focused on the synthesis, characterization, and electronic structure investigations of oxide CMR materials using photoelectron spectroscopy. He also holds an M.Phil. in Physics from IOP (2003) and an M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Kalyani, West Bengal (2001).

Dr. Pal has extensive research and professional experience, including postdoctoral research at two prestigious institutions. At Ångströmlaboratoriet, Uppsala University, Sweden (2009–2011), he conducted independent research on spin-resolved ARPES at the I3 beamline at MaxLab. His responsibilities included supporting external users and maintaining the end station, which was equipped with advanced spectroscopy tools like Scienta R4000 analyzers and Group III-V MBE systems.

Prior to this, he worked at Universität Augsburg, Germany (2008–2009), focusing on thin-film growth using UHV techniques, photoemission experiments, and advanced spectroscopy. He also assisted in lab development and provided guidance to Ph.D. and Master’s students.

At CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (NPL), New Delhi, India, Dr. Pal held various positions from 2011 to 2019. As a Scientist (2011–2015), he focused on III-Nitride semiconductor materials under prestigious CSIR network projects such as TAP-SUN and D-NEED. Later, as a Senior Scientist (2015–2019), he designed innovative experiments for semiconductor device testing. Since 2019, Dr. Pal has been a Principal Scientist at CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata, India, researching layered structures and hybrid heterostructures. His current work focuses on integrating bulk semiconductors with 2D layered materials for optoelectronic sensing applications.
