🎓 Educational Background
Dr. Rabiranjan Murmu holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, completed in 2024. His doctoral thesis, titled Experimental Studies and Modelling of Chitosan-Based Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC), was supervised by Prof. (Dr.) Debashis Roy. A significant highlight of his Ph.D. journey was publishing six SCI-indexed papers based on his research findings. Dr. Murmu earned his M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras (2011-2013), where he worked under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Abhijit P. Deshpande. His master’s thesis focused on the Preparation & Characterization of SPEEK Membrane for Proton-Conducting Fuel Cell. He completed his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering at Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang (2007-2011). Dr. Murmu’s early education includes +2 Science from Ravenshaw Junior College, Cuttack (2005-2007), and matriculation from Govt. High School, K.C. Pur, Mayurbhanj (2005).

Dr. Murmu has been serving as an Assistant Professor (Grade-I, Senior Grade) in the Chemical Engineering Department at Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang, since August 6, 2014. His responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervising UG, PG, and doctoral theses, organizing workshops and seminars, and actively contributing as a member of the Board of Studies and departmental course coordinator. In addition, he has held various administrative roles, including hostel management and purchase committee memberships. Dr. Murmu was promoted to Assistant Professor (Senior Grade) in 2019. Over the years, he has successfully guided four postgraduate projects and ten undergraduate projects, showcasing his dedication to student mentorship and academic growth.

Dr. Murmu has been recognized with several accolades throughout his career. Notably, he received the NPTEL Superstar Award for topping three courses during JAN-APR 2024 and the NPTEL Discipline Star Award for his performance in JUL-DEC 2023. Additionally, he was honored with the NPTEL Motivated Learners Award in JAN-APR 2024. Dr. Murmu has also demonstrated academic excellence by qualifying GATE twice (2011 and 2014) and receiving the prestigious MHRD Scholarship during his postgraduate studies at IIT Madras.

Dr. Murmu’s research focuses on cutting-edge areas of electrochemistry, including fuel cells, PEMFCs, and the simulation of fuel cell stacks. He has made significant contributions to the development and application of polymer composites, including their synthesis and characterization. His interests also extend to water treatment, where he has worked on biochar for heavy metal adsorption and ceramic membranes for filtration. In the field of energy and fuels, he is actively involved in optimizing biodiesel and biofuel production. Additionally, he has expertise in surface coating technologies, advancing solutions for diverse applications.
