Uvin Jayalath completed his Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Animal Science and Fisheries at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, from 2019 to 2024. He graduated with Second Class Honours Lower Division, achieving a GPA of 3.02 on a 4.0 scale. His academic journey reflects his dedication to learning and a strong commitment to the field of animal science and fisheries.

🧑‍🏫Professional Experience

Uvin is currently serving as a Temporary Lecturer at the Department of Agricultural Extension, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, a position he has held since April 2024. In this role, he has gained significant experience in teaching undergraduates, conducting practical sessions, organizing field visits, and training farmers, demonstrating his ability to bridge academic knowledge with practical applications.

During his time as a Trainee at the Livestock Field Station, Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, from December 2023 to January 2024, Uvin acquired hands-on experience in aquaculture, calf feeding, manual and machine milking, animal welfare practices, and farm management. This practical exposure helped him deepen his understanding of livestock and farm operations.

Previously, Uvin worked as a Biotechnology Technician on a contract basis at the Lahiru Group of Companies (Pvt) LTD, Kandy, Sri Lanka, from August 2021 to February 2022. He specialized in tissue culture and cell culture techniques, gaining essential skills that enhanced his expertise in biotechnology applications.

🏆International and Local Awards

Uvin's achievements include several prestigious awards. He was honored with the Best Find Spotter Award at the Global University Bioquest 2020 in August 2020, recognizing his exceptional abilities in identifying key elements. As a team member, he contributed to winning multiple championships, including the Champion Identifiers and Champion Spotters Team in 2020 and the Champion Spotters Team in 2021 at the Global University Bioquest competitions.

In March 2024, Uvin received a Merit Award from the Department of Animal Science at the Faculty of Agriculture Undergraduate Research Symposium (FAuRS) 2023. This accolade highlighted his excellence in research and his innovative contributions to the field of animal science.
